The Top 10 Greatest Wide Receivers of All Time
10) Tim Brown - He could pretty much do it all. He was an incredible kick returner, great route runner, blazing speed and good open field moves. If he was able to end his career wearing a Super Bowl ring, he'd be much higher on people's lists.\
9) Steve Largent - If you didn't know how he played and you were picking guys for a street football game, Largent would probably be the last guy picked. Lets face it, he wasn't much to look at. I doubt he could have broken 4.7 on the 40 yard dash, but the guy was nearly unstoppable on the football field. When he retired, he pretty much owned every receiving record in the book.
8) Cris Carter - We all know the expression. "All he does is catch touchdowns." Well he caught 133 TDs. He's only second to Jerry Rice in that category. He also may have the best hands out of anybody who has ever played the game.
7) Isaac Bruce - Is there anybody in the history of this league who has put up such incredible numbers and not be recognized for his talent? All you need to do is look at his career numbers. They are INSANE! He has over 14,000 career yards. If he is not a first ballot hall of famer, there is something definitely wrong with the system.
6) Michael Irvin - Probably got away with more push-offs than any other receiver in the history of the NFL. But if the refs don't call it, then its not a penalty. He was a beast to try to cover. He always wanted the ball in his hands.
5) Marvin Harrison - The second coming of Jerry Rice. It goes to show that hard work can lead to a lot of success, because this guy put in a lot of hours on the practice field. It also didn't hurt him, that he played with Peyton Manning.
4) Lance Alworth - WAY, WAY ahead of his time. If he had played during the modern era, he might have been able to double his career stats. Also his 18.9 career yards per reception is insane. None of the all time greats even come close.
3) Don Hutson - The man put up INCREDIBLE numbers considering he played in the 30s and 40s. He is still number 8 all time career receiving TDs. His 1942 season of 74 catches and 1211 yards alone make him one of the greats of all time. In that season he had more receptions, yards, TDs than many other entire teams from that year. It would be the equivalent of somebody having 3000 yards receiving in the present game.
2) Randy Moss - He's the wide receiver equivalent of Bo Jackson. A complete freak of nature. He looks like he's playing against children. One of the most dominating football player of any position in the history of the league. He's completely uncoverable. He could run by you. He could jump over you. You name it, he could do it.
1) Jerry Rice - Is there any doubt, really? His numbers would be impressive if they cam from a quarterback. No one is even in the same radar screen as Jerry Rice. Not only are his 1549 receptions, 22895 yards, and 197 career touchdowns, amazing, but he also won a few rings. It will be a really, really long time before anybody can come close to these kind of numbers.
